On February 3nd, 2025 registered students and students will make their way to Honda Center to partake in this year's "Cool like Ice" First Flight Field Trip. Students will work on their "Hockey Homework" as they watch the Anaheim Ducks practice. Then the Ducks become the teachers and watch the students through educational elements pertaining to the ice the player skate on. Things like temper conversion, states of matter, and basic engineering.
All student-participants will receive a workbook to work through these concepts in the classrooms. Activity kits will also be provided for for some simple in class demonstrations. Additional kits will be made available to registered homeschool groups based on availability.
This program is registered on a first come first serve basis.
The First Flight Field Trip has been recognized as a contributor to informal education by the National Science Teachers' Association for its successful efforts of communicating math and science concepts in a unique but effective way. The academic principles covered in the workbook and at the event have been designed for grades 3 to 6.
