Reading is the Goal
Reading Is the Goal is an effective literacy program that can be implemented in
your classroom with flexibility and with a minor time commitment. The 30-day program
focuses on volume based reading with the hope of helping students with their reading
proficiency as well as helping them to grow a love for reading. Since the program
is based on extra-curricular reading, students can build on their daily classroom
lessons by practicing their literacy skills away from school.
Teachers who participate in this free program will receive an official Ducks S.C.O.R.E. In-Class Kit containing school supplies and Reading Is the Goal materials for each student. They can implement this program in any 30-day period between the kit arrival date and the program deadline date of March 31. During these 30 days, students will select books from a 4th grade book list and record their daily reading times on an official Reading Is the Goal form (seen below). The Ducks will then reward students based upon their participation and personal achievement reaching various plateau levels of 20, 40, 60, and 120 minutes a day for 30-days. All students participating in this program will receive a prize. To help encourage all students in the classroom to read, they can work together to win great prizes for their classroom and school.
